Deck removal in the Jersey Shore

Tier B · 23 towns covered

Removing an old or unsafe deck down to the footings, and hauling the lumber and hardware away.

Homeowners here take this on regularly, and what it takes depends on size, access, and haul-off.

Signs that bring this up

  • An old deck you want gone before a new one goes in
  • A deck that has gone soft, splintered, or wobbles when you walk on it
  • A deck footprint you want back as open yard
  • Rotted ledger boards or posts that have made the deck unsafe

What the work involves

The crew disconnects the deck from the house, pulls the boards, framing, and footings, patches where the ledger met the wall if asked, and hauls it all away. A standard residential deck usually comes off in a day.

Decks come apart faster than people expect - the boards and framing go quickly - and then the footings decide how the day ends. Concrete piers pulled properly leave holes that need filling; cut off at grade they leave less to backfill but stay in the ground. Worth agreeing which of those you are paying for before the crew starts.

$500 – $3,000typical range, not a quote. What your job actually costs can only be settled by a registered crew that walks the site and looks at it.
