How it's normally handled

Small structures are taken down by hand or machine depending on size and access, with any utility service disconnected first, then the debris and foundation removed. A permit is worth confirming with the town on anything on a fixed foundation.

Outbuildings vary more than any other category here, from a lean-to to a substantial barn, so this is the job where a site visit changes the number most. What is consistent is the debris: mixed material, often with some of it old enough to need testing before anything is touched.
